Reporting on Standardising the migrant history curriculum

by MCT Migrant Curriculum Team.

Introduction:

During the period of Mid February to Mid May 2010, the Migrant Curriculum Team under BMWEC authorized by BMTA ran activities according to the contract made between World Education and the Migrant Curriculum Team.

1. Facilitating regular communication and meetings among MCT members and history teachers. From February 13, 2010 to April 19, 2010.

2. Meeting with School Principals and history teachers to seek agreement on standardizing history curriculum and planning the process of standardizing the curriculum. February 27, 2010.

3. Training with the Migrant Curriculum Team and 70 History teachers on how to teach history. May 3 – 7, 2010.

Future plan

The MCT looks forward to continuing work with History teachers to seek their input on, train them to use, and gather feedback about a standardized history curriculum.

Conclusion

We implemented this 3 month project successfully, as we got agreement from the school principals and history teachers to standardize the migrant history curriculum. We have had a history curriculum specialist who conducted a capacity building training on how to teach history to support higher order thinking skills for 70 history teachers as well as MCT members.
